I’ve been slowly but surely building my summer wardrobe over the last several weeks. However, I’m still on the hunt for a few more staples to round out my rotation. Target is always my go-to destination for affordable yet elevated pieces, but, as a 5-foot-tall gal, it takes some digging to find styles that are reliably petite-friendly, especially while shopping online.
I sifted through all of Target’s new fashion arrivals and loaded my cart with linen pants, sundresses, and breezy skirts that come short-shopper-approved. Even better? All of my versatile picks are priced safely below $40, so they’ll quickly pay for themselves in cost-per-wear. Below, shop nine petite summer staples I’m eyeing at Target, starting from $20.
Wild Fable Pull-On Linen Pants
Linen pants are a non-negotiable for me in the summer because they’re lightweight in the heat, warm in the rain, and can easily be dressed up for work or date nights. This $25 pair from Wild Fable features an easy pull-on design, with a drawstring waistband, side pockets, and a universally flattering wide-leg silhouette. Two 5’3” shoppers said they “had no issue with length” while wearing the style with flats, and another 5’3” fan said they make for “the perfect summer pants.” Plus, after a two-hour car ride, they “still looked good” with minimal wrinkles.
Universal Thread Rib-Knit Maxi Bodycon Dress
Warm weather dressing is all about ease and comfort, so I can already tell this “super flattering” maxi bodycon dress, per reviews, will prove essential in my rotation. It’s available in two striped and four solid color options and has a modest side slit, stretchy rib fabrication, and sleeveless high neckline, which offers a casual yet chic canvas for dressing up or down, depending on the occasion. And don’t be scared by the maxi hem—a 4’11” reviewer said it “does not touch the floor,” while one who’s 5’2” raved it’s “the best $20 spent!”
Wild Fable Linen Side-Tie Wrap Skort
My love for skorts knows no bounds because they’re the perfect balance between function and fashion thanks to built-in shorts. This linen side-tie wrap design is so cute and impressively affordable, and you can grab the matching linen top to create a complete, vacay-ready outfit. I’m planning on pairing it with simple white tanks, breezy blouses, and more summer tops.
A New Day Maxi Picnic A-Line Skirt
Consider a white midi skirt the summer version of staple blue jeans—it goes with virtually everything, with effortless comfort to boot. This style has a cotton blend seersucker fabrication, so you won’t have to worry about wrinkles while traveling, plus a comfy elastic waistband and handy side pockets. A 5’4” shopper said it “fits perfectly,” adding that the white color option is fully lined, while others agree the material is “lightweight” and ideal for beating the heat.

Whether you just recently started going back into the office or you’ve been going in for ages, comfortable work clothes are a must. No one wants to be stuck in stiff or too-tight pants when you’re sitting for about eight hours a day. This pair looks nice enough to feel formal, but they’re actually super comfy, according to shoppers. One person said, “They are buttery soft, fit amazing[ly], look professional, and feel like you’re wearing pajamas.” Snag the trousers for $20 at Amazon.
Made of a polyester and spandex blend, the pants deliver four-way stretch to move with you on your commute or as you walk through the office. The bootcut design is roomy enough to be comfortable without looking sloppy, too. Thanks to the pull-on elastic waistband, you also don’t have to worry about a tight waist, buttons, or zippers digging into your stomach (the pants do have a faux fly, so they don’t look like yoga pants).
Dlooda Bootcut Trousers
You can choose from 16 mostly neutral colors, including black, khaki, taupe, and gray, that will go with anything in your closet. Style the trousers with a bright blouse for a touch of color, or go for a sophisticated monochromatic look. The versatile pants are easy to dress up or down, too. They’ll be the perfect elevated casual look with sneakers, yet they’ll pair just as well with heels and a blazer.
“These bootcut dress pants are everything I’ve ever wanted in workwear and then some!” one shopper raved. “The fit is absolutely perfect: flattering, comfortable, and professional enough to strut into any meeting like I own the place.” They added that the pants are so comfy, they feel custom-made.
Another shopper said, “They are like yoga pants or leggings with a professional look. I wore these to a work conference, and I was so comfortable the whole day. As someone who works remotely most of the time, pants like these were so nice for needing to wear business casual clothes for the first time in a while.”

From boat shoes to Nantucket reds, New Englanders are known for their summer style—I would know, since I go to Cape Cod and Maine every summer. Even if you’re not planning a trip to Bar Harbor or Martha’s Vineyard this year, you can still dress like you are. I found a bunch of breezy dresses, cute sandals, canvas tote bags, and more to help you get the look—including a lobster sweater.
Vigoss Lobster Pullover Sweater
What could be more New England than a lobster sweater? This cotton-blend knit pullover has a crewneck and a roomy fit that’s perfect for throwing over a tee when you get cold at night. And when the temperatures start to dip in the fall, you can wear the sweater with jeans and sneakers for a casual look.
Sperry Bluefish 2-Eye Boat Shoe
Boat shoes are a New England staple. These Sperry boat shoes are made of water-resistant leather with mesh panels for breathability, and they have a nonslip rubber sole to prevent slipping. You’ll stay comfy all day with the memory foam footbed and the adjustable laces that allow you to customize the fit.
The Drop Kimi Ruffled-Shoulder Smocked Midi Dress
Pair this floral dress with comfortable sneakers for an outdoor brunch, or wear it with cute sandals and a cardigan for an evening out. The 100 percent cotton midi dress has a stretchy smocked bodice and flowy skirt that will keep you cool. The ruffles on the straps and hem add a fun, feminine touch, too.
Lands’ End Medium Natural 5-Pocket Open Top Canvas Tote Bag
A canvas tote bag is a must for a beach day down the Cape. You can totally customize this tote to your liking, with 21 colors, four sizes, two handle lengths, and open- and zip-top options. The bag has both exterior and interior slip pockets and a key ring attachment. It’s super durable—it’s tested to hold up to 250 pounds, which means you can toss your beach towel, sunscreen, water bottle, book, and whatever else you want inside.

Strapless bras are notorious for being uncomfortable and not staying in place, but sometimes they’re necessary. Especially with summer wedding season coming up, having a quality strapless bra will definitely come in handy for dresses with thin or no straps. And we found one that more than 17,570 five-star reviewers approve of—even shoppers with large chests. Right now, the Vanity Fair strapless bra is up to 64 percent off. Grab it for just $19 at Amazon.
The bra’s band has strips of silicone to help stop it from sliding down. One customer said, “I've worn this all night at multiple weddings now, and not only is it comfortable all night, [but] the fit [also] does not change. You won't have to worry about it slipping down or twisting. It's magic.” With lightly lined cups, the bra provides coverage without feeling overly padded, which large-chested shoppers appreciate.
Vanity Fair Back-Smoothing Strapless Bra
Made of nylon, polyester, and spandex, the bra’s fabric stretches with you to avoid back and side bulges, and the underwire and boning prevent spillage. You can also wear the strapless style as a typical bra with the removable straps. The straps can be converted to be halter, criss-cross, or one-shoulder to go with many different tops and dresses, too.
Even shoppers with large busts rave about the bra. One five-star reviewer commented, “This is the best strapless bra ever! I am a 34DD, so for me, it’s important to find a comfortable but sturdy strapless bra so that the girls stay put. I ordered it a little over a year ago, and I still wear it to this day! It fits perfectly and does not slide down or move at all. It does not dig into your skin or hurt. It is very flattering, and there is no spillage.”
Another person who wears a size 36DD said they haven’t owned a strapless bra in 34 years because they don’t stay up—until they found this Vanity Fair option. “[This bra] fits great. No spillage, amazing support, and no adjusting needed throughout the day…Next summer, you better believe I’m going to be finally shopping for strapless dresses!”

The great shift toward maximalism and self-expression (a sharp departure from quiet luxury) continues right into the hot season. This summer’s top swimsuit trends take a “more is more” approach, leveraging texture, patterns, color, and embellishments, so consider this your sign to set the simple black suit aside (at least for now) and toss something more showy into your beach bag. Ahead, a personal stylist and swimwear designer dish on all the biggest trends to help you narrow down your swimsuit choices.

Floral Prints and Appliqués
Florals are a big yes when it comes to summer swimsuit trends, and they’re showing up via everything from subtle 3D appliques to splashy tropical prints, says Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and founder of Dianne In Style. “Details like floral appliques are a way to add a stylish detail to a piece that has a typically expected look, and bright, stunning prints send the same message,” she says. “This is a look you can have fun picking unique color combinations for your personal style.”
02
of 08
Bright and Bold
Speaking of splashy tropical prints, you can expect lots of bright and bold swimwear in 2025. “Shoppers are choosing expressive, feel-good swimwear,” says Githa Duncker, co-founder and creative director of swimwear brand AQUARI. “It's about investing in pieces that spark joy and stand the test of time, so choose colors and prints that reflect you, not just trends.”
03
of 08
Boho Aesthetic
Boho is back in a big way, but with more of an elevated swist. “Think modern silhouettes with vintage-inspired prints, hand-dyed fabrics, crochet details, and nature-inspired color palettes,” Duncker tells us. “The great thing about this trend is that it pairs beautifully with brands that prioritize slow fashion and traditional techniques, creating pieces that are as soulful as they are stylish.” To nail the aesthetic, she suggests keeping the look light and airy. For example, layer your bikini with a sheer cover-up or a textured button-down dress.

of 08
One-Shoulder Swimsuits
The asymmetrical trend for the season spills into swimwear for both one-piece and two-piece styles. “Look for fun details such as shoulder bow details, ruffles, and fun prints,” Boyer suggests. She adds,“Stripes on an asymmetrical cut can be flattering as they create curves compared to horizontal stripes. Color blocking, also in style this season, is a unique and fun look for a one-shoulder one-piece swimsuit.”
05
of 08
Vintage Vibes
Along with boho, a trend that was everywhere in the ‘60s and ‘70s, we’re seeing vintage vibes inspired by colors, prints, and silhouettes from the ‘50s. “With the return of gingham and polka dots this season, we see those patterns woven into vintage-style swimwear,” Boyer says.“Because of their vintage nature, styles are being aligned to match the patterns. Vintage-style bottoms are often high-waisted with full coverage.”

of 08
Sustainability
The tie between our oceans and sustainability is close, and in 2025 we’re seeing a continuation of brands focusing on ways to be kinder to our planet. “From protecting the ocean to supporting local makers, to using upcycled materials in creative ways,” Duncker says. “Shoppers are gravitating toward labels that are transparent, thoughtful, and stand for something bigger than trends.”

Metallic Finishes
If you like the concept of more is more but don’t want to veer into ultra-colorful prints and loud details, then metallic is the way to go. Whether you’re going for the itty bitty bikini or a shimmering one-piece, these light-reflecting fabrics capture the right amount of attention while showcasing a bit of personality.

Embellishments & Hardware
Adding bling to simple pieces is a huge 2025 summer swimsuit trend. This is showing up via embellished straps (think frills, pearls, or studs) and hardware details at the bust, hips, back, or along the sides. Boyer says these details add just enough pizzazz to an otherwise simple suit without taking away from its wearability.
For me, the worst part of wedding season is planning my petite-friendly outfits around uncomfortably warm weather. I swear I'm already sweating just thinking about it. Invitations started pouring in months ago, and I’ve been left with a full roster of weddings coming up this spring and summer.
Along with some cool wedding nail ideas, I also plotted out a few key looks to fit the different types of weddings I'll be attending, and their accompanying dress codes. It was important to keep in mind that I'm 5-foot-1, and don’t want to be swallowed up by a gown. I also prioritized breathable fabrics that I won’t overheat in.
I'm pretty proud of my lineup. Best of all, I'll get more than one wear out of these beautiful styles by dressing them down with different accessories for more casual occasions.
J.Crew Linen Mini Dress
Linen is a must in the summer. I know I'll be glad I went this route when I don J.Crew’s lightweight linen dress at an upcoming outdoor wedding. My favorite thing about it is how the skirt flutters gracefully around the legs. The front reminds me of a dressy vest, which pairs stunningly with the eye-catching green hue—though this is available in three other, more neutral, hues, as well.
The Occasion by Old Navy Fit & Flare Taffeta Mini Dress
I had no idea Old Navy had a “special occasion” section, but the brand really outdid itself with this darling flora piece. I love wearing green, and the large floral print on this option enhances its elegant silhouette. The full skirt and bow straps add a romantic touch that's ideal for an indoor ceremony and reception. I’ll pair it with raffia Mary Jane flats to complete the look.
Lulus Sweet At Heart Blue Floral Embroidered Two-Piece
Fine. It's not technically a dress, but it's the next best thing, and is adorned in thoughtfully embroidered florals. I plan on wearing this to a friend's backyard wedding and reception. It shows off just a sliver of skin, but since I have a short torso, the top doesn’t look very revealing on me at all.
Free People Free-Est Coastal Classy Set
Another set I was especially excited about, this looks so effortlessly sophisticated. It will be my outfit for a family member's small at-home ceremony. In this gorgeous two-piece, I'll be comfortable without feeling over- or underdressed. I already know I’ll wear this out on date nights and to alfresco dinner parties, too.
Astr the Label Bow Back A-Line Dress
I have so many Astr the Label dresses in my closet—the brand nails the feminine chic vibe like nobody's business. The sultry slide slit on this dress’s midi-length skirt, soft fit-and-flare shape, square neckline, and open back with sweet bows come together in a polished combination. I honestly can't wait to whip this number out! I plan to restyle it for a couple of upcoming banquets, too.
If you’ve gotten used to working from home, returning to the office can feel like a harsh transition. Along with having to wake up earlier, one of the hardest parts is probably having to change out of your cozy sweats. But that doesn’t mean you have to trade them in for something rigid and uncomfy. Many trousers are actually comfortable, like this Funyyzo pair that’s earned more than 4,100 five-star ratings. And the best-selling stylish pants are only $42 at Amazon.
With a wide-leg, roomy fit, the trousers are basically dressed-up sweatpants. They even have an elastic in the back of the waistband for added comfort. “I love the width of the leg, which is wide enough to be fashionable and flowy without making me feel like a clown,” said one shopper. “The waist fits snuggly, making me look snatched, without being so constrict[ing] that my stomach hurts. The elastic in the back helps with the fit without being too bulky.” But the best thing about the pants is that they’re machine washable, so there’s no need to take them to the dry cleaner.
Funyyzo Wide-Leg Trousers
The high-waisted trousers feature pleating in the front to give them a tailored appearance that’s perfect for the office. The relaxed silhouette makes them easy to dress down on casual days, too. They’ll look just as great paired with white sneakers and a T-shirt as they will with a blazer and loafers. The pants also have belt loops if you want to add a belt to accessorize your outfit.
According to one reviewer, the polyester and elastane fabric feels high-quality and “super expensive.” They added, “These are probably the best work pants I have ever owned.” The trousers are available in sizes XS to XL, and come ing short, regular, and long inseams to suit a variety of body types and heights.
The pants come in a wide range of colors, including black, khaki, cream, white, gray, army green, light blue, and more, and customers have purchased multiple shades because they love them so much. One reviewer commented, “I own these in black and chocolate brown, and they are elegant [and] flattering, and [they] flow beautifully without looking overly wide. Some wide-leg pants I’ve tried in the past have looked more like skirts! These, however, are the perfect balance of sophistication and comfort, and I’ve received so many compliments.”

Midi-length skirts and dresses first became popular in the 1940s, when fabric rationing during WWII led to shorter hemlines and tighter silhouettes. Then, they were surprisingly controversial in the 1970s when women felt they were being forced away from mini skirts — and even led to some protests. Today, they’re a wardrobe staple. And right now, all my clients are in need of midi dresses for summer, so I know you are too. They’re wearing them to outdoor concerts, backyard parties, wine tasting, on vacation, and for day-to-day summer life. But before I jump into the best midi dresses for summer, let’s go over some of the frequently asked questions about midi dresses.
What’s The Difference Between A Midi And Maxi Dress?
I often see designers referring to midi dresses as maxi dresses and maxi dresses as midi dresses. But here’s the exact difference in dress lengths:
A tea-length dress hits the bottom of your kneecap.
An ankle-length hem is where a maxi dress begins.
A midi dress is anything between these two lengths. But to be really specific, a midi dress hem is between your upper calf and the bottom of your calf.
Are Midi Dresses Flattering?
Midi dresses can be more flattering than maxi dresses if you like your ankles. If you don’t like your ankles, a maxi dress is more flattering. Otherwise, flattering is not the real reason we love a midi dress. The real perk of a midi dress is you are not at risk of tripping, the hem stays cleaner (versus a longer hem that is closer to the ground), and a midi dress tends to be cooler since you get more air “up there” and you are showing more skin.
Best Midi Dresses For Summer
Below are all the best summer midi dresses I’ve come across for myself and my clients this year, from casual options you can throw on for errands to more tailored dresses that can be worn to work. I’ll continue to add more fabulous midi dresses as I find them. If you’re looking for a dress of a different length, I also have posts on my favorite summer maxi dresses and short dresses.

Who doesn’t love the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?! They don’t call it an “event” for nothing. It’s a massive sale that dramatically discounts brand-new, coveted merchandise and go-to classics. We all munch at the bit for this baby. This year, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has 3,832 discounted items for women — and I looked at every single one of them. Yes, every single one of them. When Can I Start Shopping The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
You heard the sale starts on July 8th, so you go to the website and try to purchase, but alas, you are not allowed! That is because the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is like a caste system. Nordstrom credit card holders shop first, and there is a tier of power within those folks as well. The more you shop at Nordstrom, the more powerful you become, mwah ha ha! Here is the schedule of who is allowed to shop first:
Tuesday, July 8 – Nordstrom credit card holders with Icon Status get first dibs. This is the most exclusive Nordstrom status and you must spend at least $15,000 a year using a Nordstrom credit card to achieve Icon status.
Wednesday, July 9 – Nordstrom credit card holders with Ambassador status — those who spend $5,000+ a year — can shop now.
Thursday, July 10 – Nordstrom credit card holders with Influencer status can start shopping now. You automatically get Influencer status when you sign up for a credit card.
Saturday, July 12 – Everyone can shop now!
The sale ends and prices go back up for everyone on August 4.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Shopping Tips
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale can be overwhelming. One, it’s easy to overshop. Two, it can be time-consuming to browse 3,000+ items. Three, everything sells out so fast! I already have a huge issue with everything selling out at Nordstrom. I have heard many a frustration from VSTYLE readers when my recommended Nordstrom items in any blog post, let alone this one, sell out within 15 minutes of it going live. And if you’re one of my clients who has received one of my online shopping lists, you are fully aware of how quickly things sell out. To counter these issues, here are my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shopping tips:
To avoid overshopping, make a list of what you need or want before browsing.
Instead of browsing 3,000+ items yourself, browse the recommended shopping lists of your favorite bloggers. Oh, look! You’re already on that.
Order two sizes of any item you adore. If you wait until after the item arrives to size up or down, the item in the color or size you want will most likely be sold out.
Set an alert on your phone for the day you are allowed to start shopping (check your status above).
If an item is sold out, check back every few days. About half the items that sell out right away will come back in stock from all the returns.
To elaborate, items will sell out right away, but many will come back in stock due to returns. This is mostly due to the overshopping we discussed. People go manic and shop insane amounts and then realize they don’t actually need most of what they bought, or the size is off, and they end up returning at least half of what they purchased. So, you may think that shopping on July 28th will have nothing, and it will certainly be less than on July 8th, but you can get really lucky by shopping the sale late.

Best Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dresses
Just one dress caught my eye this year.
A Frank & Eileen review has been in the making for a few years now. I discovered the brand when a client asked me to create a uniform for her informal day-to-day life. I ended up putting her in a series of their now-famous casual collared shirts. But there are a few things you should know before diving into the line…
Frank & Eileen Sizing
In general, Frank & Eileen runs large, so you will want to order a size down. To be more specific, the shirts for sure run large, while their pants run slightly large. With the shirts, for some tops you’ll need one size down, while other tops may require you to go down two sizes if you want a more fitted silhouette. For example, the XS button-front shirts (pictured above) are a little baggy on me, whereas the XS in the Patrick sweatshirt (featured below) fits almost snugly. Keep reading for in-depth sizing tips for some of my favorite Frank & Eileen items below.
Frank & Eileen Jeans Review
Frank & Eileen’s Galway wide-leg jeans are one of my favorite pairs of denim right now. The fit is fantastic, the comfort is phenomenal, and the movement is perfection, which is hard to pull off with a cropped, wide leg. So many wide-leg pants and jeans don’t move well, so this is a special find. I want all my clients to try these pants.
These jeans run a little big, but for those with fuller waistlines and average to narrow hips, they run true to size. I recommend you order your usual size as well as a size down to compare.
Is Frank & Eileen Worth It?
Frank & Eileen is a woman-owned and led company, with a focus on female empowerment, including a pledge to spend $20 million in the next 10 years to support female entrepreneurs. They’re also committed to sustainability and are a certified B Corporation, which means they meet certain environmental and social standards. For example, Frank & Eileen only works with sustainable manufacturers and textile producers and all their fabrics are traceable from seed to finish. In fact, on their website, you can look up every single one of the fabrics they use and read where it comes from and how it’s made. I adore that transparency and commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
I know you love an ethical company like me, and are willing to pay more to support sustainable practices. But the main reason Frank & Eileen is worth the price tag is because the cut of the clothing is so darn flattering and the fabrics feel amazing. They really know what they are doing. They also make items I can’t get anywhere else. At first glance, Frank & Eileen may not seem as unique as I am waxing poetic, but they are. The items I am featuring from them are truly one of a kind.
Frank & Eileen Review: Carmel Travel Set
The Carmel Travel Set is so darn flattering and cozy. It doesn’t have pockets, which I know will disappoint a few of you, but the perk of no pockets is that the pant is extra slimming on the hips and belly. It is truly their cuts that makes Frank & Eileen so unique. I love this set for working from home, travel days, lounging in a hotel room or Airbnb, and my walks in Balboa Park.

Frank & Eileen Review: Eileen Ruffle

The Galway Wide-Leg Jean is the Frank & Eileen item that I want to manically recommend. The model does not do them justice. They will look so much better on you. I need all of you to try them. Frank & Eileen Review: Tuscany Getaway Set
I feel so sexy in the Tuscany Getaway Set! As you can tell in the photo at the top of the post, I paired it with a navy bralette and wore the shirt open for an edgy belly-baring look. I will be sporting this set for errands, spring vacations, and over a bathing suit on my San Diego beach and pool days. Again, this will look so much better on you than it does on the model — and these pants do have pockets! Praise F & E!

Shorts are a hot-weather given, but don’t write off skirts so quickly. Not only do they add a little variety to your summer fits, but they’re actually an excellent way to keep cool and are just as versatile as pants or shorts. (Pro tip: wear a pair of slip shorts or biker shorts underneath to prevent chafing.) We asked personal stylists to share their favorite summer skirt trends of the season. They also offered some styling advice for each.

Lace-Trimmed Skirts
If there’s one look that’s come to define the season’s softer side, it’s certainly the lace-trimmed skirt. “Romantic yet grounded, these pieces appeared on the runways of Chanel and Miu Miu, often styled not with heels and silk blouses, but with oversized tees, sporty tanks, and simple ballet flats,” says Ashley Full, personal stylist and co-founder of AMOUR781. She adds that in Paris, fashion editors have been spotted pairing lace maxi skirts with vintage graphic tees and retro sneakers.

Voluminous A-Line Skirts
As the quiet luxury trend fades out, it’s being replaced with more expressive, maximalist looks, including skirts with lots of volume. “They are also a great way to express your personal style and creativity, which is also popular in 2025,” notes Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and founder of Dianne In Style. “Because of the fullness on the bottom, you want to keep your top more streamlined.” Try a fitted top or even a body suit to create flattering proportions.

Mini Skirts
Forget the short-shorts! We’re going mini skirt. “Nostalgia is everywhere in 2025 from jelly shoes to mini skirts,” says Samantha Dawn, a personal stylist and style coach. “Don't be afraid to go for the mini skirts that have more texture, such as leather. It adds more dimension into your outfits and can easily be paired with an oversized blazer.” And a bonus of mini skirts is that they’ll definitely keep you cool in the hottest weather. Combine it with a tank top or cropped tee, strappy sandals, and your go-to sunglasses.

Boho Maxi Skirts
Bohemian style is enjoying a resurgence—skirts included. Full says a popular iteration of this is a tiered maxi in flowing fabrics, whimsical prints, and exaggerated hemlines. “These appeared in collections from Zimmerman, Chloé, and Etro, though this season the styling has taken a more grounded, urban feel,” she says. “Instead of sandals and straw hats, we’re seeing these skirts paired with boxy leather jackets, cowboy boots, or even structured blazers.”

Bubble Skirts
Anyone who thought the bubble skirt would never see the light of day again is probably surprised to see this summer skirt trend. But with all the Y2K nostalgia happening, it makes perfect sense.
“Zendaya, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Bieber are big fans of this trend, but what’s truly fueling the trend isn’t the runway or red carpet: it’s the streets,” Full tells us. “In Copenhagen, Milan, and New York, the bubble skirt has become a favorite among fashion editors and street-style stars. A cropped jacket or blazer helps refine the silhouette.”

Embellishment Skirts
Maximalism and unapologetic individuality is a big theme this year, so we’re not to see embellished skirts as a top summer skirt trend in 2025. Think of it as an extension of the charms trend, which is popping up on everything from shoes to handbags. “Add a more casual top (like a white tee) with your skirt for it to feel more casual-elevated. And don't forget your jewelry to complete the look.

Suede Skirts
Suede is a classic, textured wardrobe staple that aligns neatly with minimalist looks. “The summer suede look is perfect right now,” Boyer says. “Lightweight suede is surprisingly breathable and great for warm weather. Pair it with other breathable fabrics such as linen for a breezy look.”

Denim Skirts
One reason why denim skirts remain so popular is that they never get stuck in one particular style. They come in mini, maxi, A-line, etc., and in many different washes.
“They align perfectly with the 2025 overall fashion trend of personal expression. You can always find a silhouette and wash that matches your individual style,” Boyer says. “Pick the silhouette that you love best and have fun styling it with different tops and accessories. Adding fun belts and jewelry as well as swapping sneakers for boots will give you all kinds of versatility.”

If you’ve been looking for a good reason to do a little clothes shopping, consider this your sign. The seasons are officially transitioning, and it’s time to start thinking about swapping out those chunky cable knit sweaters and oversize jeans for warm-weather frocks. For some wardrobe inspiration, we asked fashion pros to dish on the season’s biggest spring dress trends. From cherry red palettes to sculptural silhouettes, here’s what’s slated to be big for spring 2025.

of 08
Sculptural Silhouettes
Sculptural dresses are a big yes for spring 2025, which play into a larger trend we’re seeing in fashion of embracing architectural shapes, says Rob Behnke, co-founder and stylist at Fair Indigo.
He says the trend has really taken off since January and that you can expect even more as we head into spring. His pro tip when styling this dress style is to cool it with accessories. “You'll want to let the dress do the work here,” he says. “You could also go with minimalist footwear, too.”

Cherry Red
Pink has been a go-to hue for spring year after year, but there’s a new girl in town and she doesn’t hold back. Cherry red has taken center stage; we saw it at Ferragamo via the fashion house’s asymmetrical dresses, and Balmain showed off structured, satin-finished ensembles in the same vibrant hue. This spring 2025 dress trend also aligns with Pinterest's 2025 palette, highlighting cherry red as a statement color for the year.

3D Florals
We know, we know—florals aren’t exactly groundbreaking for spring. This expected dress trend comes with a fun twist, though: multidimensional embellishments.
“This 2025, florals are blooming more than ever with hyper-realistic 3D enhancements such as appliqués, embroidery, and fabric sculpting,” notes Brian Lim, fashion expert and clothing brand founder. “These dresses are influenced by couture runways and creatively crafted red-carpet looks that create a dynamic, tactile aesthetic.”
To tone down the drama for everyday styling, he recommends pairing the dresses with sleek, minimal footwear like strappy heels or classic flats.

Old Hollywood Glamour
Retro glam gorgeousness is officially here, and we’re seeing it everywhere from formal red carpet events to happy hour to street style. Jeanel Alvarado, retail expert and founder of RetailBoss, says that Sabrina Carpenter—who swapped her Y2K aesthetic for ‘50s and ‘60s glam—has a big role in this spring 2025 dress trend taking off.
“We can expect to see more vintage-inspired cocktail dresses—mini or above-the-knee—with high sequin, pleated, ruching and fringe, as well as midi or knee-length dresses with both light and airy fabrics like chiffon, linen and organza,” says Alvarado. She adds, “Many of the new styles make a twist out of a classic by designing with modern necklines such as square, halter, strapless, and plunging.”
05
of 08
Boho Vibes
The boho trend is enjoying quite the spring 2025 revival. We saw it at Chloé via ruffled and bouncy silhouettes, and Isabel Marant’s runway further embraced the aesthetic via fringed hemlines and tassel accessories. For dresses, this season's boho chic is characterized by flowing fabrics, intricate lace details, and a fusion of vintage-inspired details with fresh and modern styling.
06
of 08
Sheer Layers
The naked dress and its many iterations lives on, and is an especially popular spring dress trend for 2025 as people gravitate to wearing less in general. “Soft transparency has been creeping into fashion the last few seasons, but I'm expecting to see layered organza and tulle take center stage,” says Behnke. “The look is a nice combo of romantic and modern. Try layering a dress over a slip for a crisp and polished look.” He says you could make it more casual by pairing sheer textures with more structured outerwear.
07
of 08
Vivid Monochromaticism
Monochromatic looks have been trending for a bit, but there’s been a fixation on soft neutrals. Lim says that in spring 2025 we’ll see a switch to vivid, primary hues. Think cherry red (as mentioned above) along with cobalt blue and sunshine yellow.
“Influenced by social media and street style, these bold dresses feature striking colors and sleek silhouettes to make a statement,” says Lim. “Use neutral-colored accessories like black micro bags or beige slingbacks to ensure the focus remains on the color of the dress.”

Girly Utility Dresses
Finally! A spring dress trend that’s giving us exactly what we want: more pockets. “This is coming from the trend of combining function and fashion, and I personally love this,” Bennie says. “These are dresses that have things like oversized pockets, belted waists, and durable fabrics. It's practical and stylish. I'd pair it with chunky sandals or ankle boots. You could also add a crossbody bag to lead into the utility aesthetic.”
As temperatures and leaves start dropping, it only makes sense to switch up your style game and try on something new. Looking to the season’s top trends is a great place to draw inspiration, and when it comes to skirts, there’s a lot of newness in the pipeline.
“The '90s have been calling, made an emergency breakthrough, have connected, and are so back,” says Amy Acton, fashion expert and CEO at Acton Style Group. “It’s like grunge, glam, and a bit of rebellion got together for the ultimate style reunion. It’s proof that the best trends never really say goodbye—they just wait for the perfect moment to make a comeback.”
The beauty of skirts is that you can pair them with everything, from chic blouses to oversized cable knits to boots and beyond. Here’s what stylists say are their favorite skirt trends for fall 2024.
1. A-Line Skirts
A-line skirts are fitted at the waist and gradually flare out towards the hem, giving the silhouette of an A-shape, hence the name. “I love A-line skirts because they look great on every body shape,” says Jennifer Johnson, personal stylist and owner of True Fashionistas. “You can also wear them with anything from flats to heels to boots. I think the look is being fueled by the classic look coming back into style this fall.”
2. Pleated Midi Skirts
Pleated midi skirts are having a serious Gwyneth-Paltrow-in-the-'90s moment this fall, Acton says. They’re bringing that elevated, laid-back, and polished vibe that the A-list actress perfected years ago. “Pair them with a chic blouse, fitted blazer, and heels for a refined office look, and a turtleneck or sweater, tweed blazer, and boots for that perfect fall prepster vibe. And, of course, you can keep it simple with a T-shirt, denim jacket, and sneakers to keep it casual."
She adds that this season’s shades—deep teal, burnt orange, classic plaids, and ombre—give them that rich, autumn charm, making them the ultimate fall piece for a touch of easy elegance.
3. Lace Slip Skirts
Also a nostalgic nod, lace slip skirts are still enjoying some time in the spotlight—particularly versions that hit at midi length in a flat color or print.
“This year, I'm seeing a rise in the late ‘90s-inspired lace trim slip skirts,” says Sahra Brandt, personal stylist at Shop the City. “I love that it blends feminine sensuality, yet the styling we're seeing it with makes it casual and not overly sexual.” Don’t be afraid to get a little creative by dressing lace skirts down. Brandt says this skirt pairs well with oversized tees or sweaters for a feminine and cool look.
4. Pencil Maxi Skirts
Curve-hugging pencil skirts are a definite do this fall. Keep them at a maxi length and you’ll be riding the zeitgeist wave. “I love a great maxi, and I love a great pencil skirt, so why not combine them for a classic yet transitional piece going from winter to fall,” Johnson says. “It gives the look and refinement of that classic pencil skirt, but also covers your legs when it is cold and lends itself well to wearing boots.”
5. Denim Skirts
Denim always returns every autumn, and this year’s no different. This season, we’re seeing denim skirts of all varieties—from long to short, and with blouses, tees, and even more denim.
“I love that there's so many options, though you can't go wrong with a classic indigo with a front slit paired with a knee-high boot,” Brandt says. “These skirts were big in the late ‘90s and early oughts, and if you haven't noticed, fashion is cyclical. Trends come back around every 20 years or so. I think we as a society are also looking for a new way to wear classic American denim that feels feminine.”
6. Leather Wrap Skirts
Along with perennial fabric fave denim, leather is in style for autumn 2024. With skirts, we’re seeing it in pencil shapes and as a wrap. “Leather isn’t just for jackets this fall,” says Nina Vargas, celebrity stylist. “We will be seeing sleek leather wrap skirts that scream sophisticated but edgy, which gives off a sexy, put-together fall feel. Leather’s chic, and makes a comeback year after year around this season.”
7. Mini Skirts
In case you haven't noticed, the ‘90s are still in full swing, and the return of the micro-mini is proof of that. It’s equal parts grunge and feminine, making it the perfect addition for those who want to make a statement.
“It’s like something straight out of a Nirvana video mixed with that offbeat glam. It’s the ultimate statement piece for anyone channeling a little rebellion with a side of edge,” Acton says. “Rock it bare-legged on the warmer days and with tights when it gets cooler. Think layers, knits, and flannels or slouchy and oversized blazers completed with over-the-knee boots for that 'just threw this on’ look that’s anything but accidental.”
You get an invitation to attend a fun shindig, and the dress code wording toward the bottom says something like “cocktail attire preferred.” Naturally, this calls for a cocktail dress. But what are cocktail dresses, and how are they different from every other type of dress out there? Read through our quick guide to ensure you show up appropriately dolled up for whatever event you’ve got penciled into your cal.
What Are Cocktail Dresses?
Cocktail dresses are shorter, semi-formal dresses that typically range from mini skirt length to just below the knee. Traditionally, cocktail dresses embraced a sort of understated elegance, but today’s version can range from fun and flirty to sophisticated and elegant to unapologetic sensuality. On the spectrum of attire, cocktail dresses aren’t quite as casual as summer dresses, but they’re also not as fancy as evening gowns.
“Summer dresses are truly casual meant for wearing at the beach, a walk in the park, casual lunch with friends, or staying cool while out shopping—a casual moment in which you want something lightweight and airy,” says luxury clothing designer Tess Mann of Tess Mann Atelier. “Formal gowns are specifically used for black tie affairs—special events in the evening, where they received their nickname ‘evening gown.’”
In that sense, cocktail dresses are more refined compared to casual dresses, often featuring finer fabrics, beautiful embellishments, and more tailored fits. Evening gowns take this up another notch with highly intricate detailing, a more structured silhouette, and often much longer hemlines.
Where to Wear Cocktail Dresses
While the name “cocktail dress” implies this garment is intended for happy hour, you can wear it anywhere that “cocktail attire” is recommended or preferred.
“Cocktail dresses are superbly versatile and can be seen during fine dining, a wedding, a semi-formal party, company dinners, fundraisers, attending fashion shows, or enjoying live shows,” Mann says. “Many cocktail dresses can even be worn at more formal events with the correct material choice, style of dress, and the appropriate accessories.”
Expert Tips for Styling Cocktail Dresses
Planning to wear a cocktail dress in the near future? Follow these expert styling tips.
Add Luxe Accessories: “Even the most simplistic of cocktail dresses can be made more glamorous with a beautifully beaded belt, your favorite jewelry, purse, or clutch,” Mann says.
Choose Complementary Footwear: There are no hard rules, but often some variation of a heeled shoe looks best with a cocktail dress. Consider a pointed pump, a block-heel sandal, or a kitten heel for some extra oomph.
Consider Hair and Makeup: A little extra finesse when it comes to hair and makeup goes a long way when styling a cocktail dress. Opt for a sleek updo or low chignon or wear your hair in soft waves. Don’t shy away from glamor when doing your makeup.
Layer With a Jacket: Layers are your friend, especially during events that go from day to night. “It’s not uncommon to wear a beautiful beaded crop jacket with that very special little black dress,” Mann says. You can also try a beautiful shawl, wrap, bolero, or cape.
There’s no arena where the old adage ‘what goes around comes around’ holds more true than fashion. Trends are constantly coming in-going out-coming back in style. One perfect example? The bubble skirt. A staple in the ‘80s (cue images of Cyndi Lauper music videos), they’re back in a big way. “Bubble skirts are trending right now due to their playful yet chic aesthetic, which aligns perfectly with the current fashion movement towards nostalgia and self-expression,” explains celebrity stylist Michelle Thomas, founder of The Kut Studios. “These skirts, characterized by their voluminous, gathered hems, bring a touch of whimsy and a nod to the fashion of the 1980s and early 2000s—eras that are seeing a resurgence in today's style landscape.”
And, while it may seem like bubble skirts are pretty specific, Thomas says they’re surprisingly versatile, just as easily dressed up or down. More styling specifics in a moment, but there are a few key things to keep in mind when it comes to ensuring this silhouette is flattering. The key is to balance the voluminous shape with the rest of your outfit, as well as consider your body type, explains fashion expert Jacqueline Harris, co-founder and designer of I Love Tyler Madison. If you’re more petite, opt for bubble skirts that are slightly less voluminous and hit above the knee so as to avoid overwhelming your frame, she suggests. Have an hourglass shape? Bubble skirts are very flattering because they accentuate your waistline, she notes, adding that pairing it with a tucked-in-top will help maintain your proportion. Those who are pear-shaped should choose ones that flare out starting at the waist, whereas those who are more apple-shaped should make sure their skirt has a defined waistband and pair it with a more structured top, she suggests.
Here, five different ways to style a bubble skirt.
1. Casual Chic
“Pair your bubble skirt with a simple and fitted t-shirt or tank top to balance the volume of the skirt,” advises Harris. Ballet flats or casual sneakers keep the look comfortable but still effortlessly stylish, says Thomas.
2. Office Ready
Go for a bubble skirt that hits at the knee or longer. Add a structured blouse or fitted top into the skirt and add a structured blazer as an added layer on top. “This combination works because the tailored pieces add sophistication and structure, which offsets the playful nature of the bubble skirt. Finish with classic pumps for a polished appearance,” Thomas recommends.
3. Evening Elegance
Try a bubble skirt in lieu of your favorite dress for date night or a special event. Thomas advises looking for one in a satin or silk fabric. Pair it with an off-the-shoulder top, strappy heels and a statement earring or necklace to add the finishing touch.
4. Boho Vibes
While you typically should go for a more tailored shirt with a bubble skirt, Thomas says you can also opt for a more flowy, boho-style blouse if you're after a super chill, cool California girl energy. The key? Add a belt at the waist to keep the bubble skirt’s shape defined, she says. You can also pick a bubble skirt in more of a midi-length for a more boho effect.
5. Sporty Edge
Love athleisure? “Try a bubble skirt with a cropped hoodie or sweatshirt. The sporty top gives the playful skirt a modern, edgy twist. Pair with high-top sneakers or chunky boots for a trendy, streetwear-inspired look,” suggests Thomas. Or, try it with an oversized t-shirt (yes, fudging the proportions rule a little bit) for a very sporty, cool-girl effect.
A shirt dress takes your classic button up dress shirt and lengthens it so it hits anywhere from mid-thigh to right around the ankles. It’s basically the best of both worlds: You get to enjoy the sophistication of a dress but with the breathability and comfort of a shirt.
“The thing I like best about a shirt dress is that you can dress it up or dress it down depending on the look you are going for,” says Chellie Carlson, a wardrobe stylist based in Los Angeles. Available in all sorts of silhouettes and textiles, there are a ton of ways you can style a shirt dress.
01
of 09
Sneakers and Denim Jacket
For a non-fussy everyday look, Carlson says to style your shirt dress with a cool sneaker, a light denim jacket (or cardigan over your shoulders) and then head out the door. “This pairing is great for comfort while running errands around town,” she says. “A cropped jacket will hit you right at the waist for a better balanced silhouette.”
02
of 09
Statement Heels and Jewelry
A statement-making kitten or block heel will instantly elevate a shirt dress. Nicole Russo, a New York City-based personal stylist, says this is more unexpected than a sandal, but still tweakable according to your personal styles and walking needs. “The shoes add sartorial depth, but you can still look and feel presentable for any occasion,” she explains. “If wearing a bolder shoe is outside your comfort zone, choose either the dress or the shoes to be your statement piece.” Belting the shirt dress brings the eye to the waist to create a more flattering silhouette.
03
of 09
Sandals and Straw Tote
Heading to the beach? Throw on a perfectly wrinkled linen shirt dress—either in a neutral or a fun color like this one—and add some strappy sandals. “This look is perfect for a weekend brunch or weekend at the beach,” says Carlson. “It provides breathability in the heat.” Complete it with an oversized straw tote and matching bucket hat.
04
of 09
Oversize Blazer and Slingbacks
Whether you’re heading to the office or happy hour (maybe from one to the other), a blazer and some slingbacks are the way to go. They “elevate the outfit, allowing it to go from day to night,” Carlson says. “Wear an oversized blazer for a more casual cool vibe, and roll the sleeves to mid-forearm to give it a bit more polish.”
05
of 09
Pointed Heel and a Belt
Go for an ultra-chic vibe by belting your shirt dress and slipping into some pointed-toe heels. Delicate jewelry and a matching bag bring the look home. Monochromatic neutrals work brilliantly, as seen here, but don’t be afraid to play with some color, too.
06
of 09
Knee-High Boots and Bag
Here’s another easy, chic fit that allows for some customization—it’s also a great option for cooler fall and spring weather. “Whether western leaning, equestrian, or bohemian and slouchy, your favorite boots are bound to match,” says Russo. She suggests pairing the boots with a brighter, small bag to add some dimension and a little femininity. You could also try an oversized bag that matches the shoes, as pictured here.
07
of 09
Swimsuit and Flip Flops
Who says you have to style a shirt dress for streetwear? A flowy, oversize option serves as the perfect coverup when heading to the pool or beach. Pull it on over your favorite swimsuit and pair it with flip flops and sunglasses.
08
of 09
Platform Sandals and Jean Shorts
For a twist on your dress shirt—and a way to keep cool in the summer—unbutton it from the waist down and add a pair of jean shorts. Platform sandals lend a bit of height and style factor, and a matching bag and sunglasses tie it all together.
09
of 09
Trousers and Tee
Similarly, try styling a shirt dress as a cardigan and add a pair of trousers and simple tee underneath. “It’s unexpected and has the ease of throwing on a dress, but is more creative,” Russo says. She adds, “This look acclimates to different weather and personal styling with various prints, shapes, and colors, too.
Some trends may come and go, but the mini skirt is a classic that lasts forever. The resurgence of the mini skirt trend has taken over our TikTok feed and our wardrobe. From denim mini skirts to black satin mini skirts, the possibilities are endless when it comes to mini skirt styles and outfits. This timeless piece has been worn all the time in my closet.
Want to add a mini skirt to your wardrobe? Check out 8 ways to incorporate a mini skirt into your wardrobe for every season. Below we have a roundup of our favorite ways to style mini skirts.
1. Day to Night Look
This creator styled one mini skirt in three versatile ways. The first look with the oversized race car jacket is a casual outfit for the daytime. Fashion stylist, Ellie Witt, turns to an oversized bomber jacket with a mini skirt to play with unique proportions. To transform the mini skirt outfit into nighttime wear, the creator swapped the race car jacket for a leather jacket. Add accessories in the same black color for a monochromatic look.
2. Jean Jacket and Mini Skirt
If you love sticking to a capsule wardrobe, you can never go wrong with a versatile piece in your wardrobe like a jean jacket. By adding the denim jacket with a mini skirt, it creates some variety in your look with different textures. Pair a white or black tee underneath the jean jacket for a casual daytime look.
3. Polished and Preppy
From loafers to button-down cardigans, this creator is all about the preppy style with these mini skirt outfit combinations. Whether you have an old cardigan lying around in your closet or a vintage white polo, style these tops with a mini skirt for the ultimate preppy outfit. For wearing loafers with a mini skirt, Witt recommends adding white ankle socks for a polished look.
4. Pleated Mini Skirt
A pleated mini skirt is a sleek staple to elevate any outfit. From the office to a nice dinner, this mini skirt style works wonders for almost any occasion. Wear it with a more structured top like the creator's sweater for a tailored look. Add your favorite minimal accessories to finish off the ensemble.
5. White Mini Skirt
With warmer weather in the spring and summer seasons, it's a chance to swap the timeless black mini skirt for a white mini skirt. This creator paired a white mini skirt with a blue and white button-down for a preppier look. When it comes to white, look for linen fabric so it's lighter on those hot days. Opt for a mini skirt with shorts underneath, especially in the warmer months when you're out and about.
6. Wardrobe Staples
Basics are some of the most important pieces in your closet. Pair your favorite white t-shirt and black mini skirt for a casual outfit. This creator opted for sneakers with this ensemble, but this look is very versatile and can be worn with loafers, boots, sandals, and more. Finish off with minimal jewelry and a shoulder bag to complete the look.
7. Denim Skirt
A denim skirt can be dressed up or down for day to night looks. This creator styled one denim skirt in four different ways. With the daytime outfits, the creator incorporated layering pieces such as an oversized bomber jacket and button down cardigan to create variety in the looks. Swap the casual shoes for heels for a nighttime look.
8. Mini Skirt and Tights
Even when the weather starts to cool, you can still sport your favorite mini skirt outfits. This creator is bundled up with a sweater, scarf, and tights with the mini skirt. "I love wearing a mini skirt with super sheer tights," says Witt. The very sheer tights allow you to wear a mini skirt with the colder weather yet minimally show the tights.

Merokeety Striped T-Shirt Dress
We love a look we can just throw on and hit the road—all while knowing we still look put-together and will be comfortable all day. This T-shirt dress is that very dress, shoppers said, which is little wonder considering its 21,000 five-star ratings. This style from Merokeety has the lived-in comfort of your favorite jersey-knit T-shirt, only reimagined as a dress with a waist-defining sash and a pleasant bit of stretch. “This dress is the perfect casual dress for the girl who doesn’t normally feel comfortable in dresses, and it’s super comfortable,” one shopper said. “It’s figure-hugging without being so tight that it shows every dimple and bulge,” another added.
Auselily Tank-Style Maxi Dress
We loved this summer maxi dress for its quirky pattern play, with horizontal stripes up top and vertical stripes on the bottom. Turns out, we aren’t alone, considering it’s amassed more than 18,000 ratings, nearly 13,000 of which are a perfect five stars. The black-and-white-striped version is but one of 40 colors it comes in, which includes summery florals, painterly ombres, and eye-catching prints. Each features the same tank-style bodice and maxi-length skirt that can be worn as is, jazzed up with a belt, knotted at the hem for a bit of asymmetry, or topped with a jean jacket on nippy nights. “I’m about to blow my paycheck on more of these,” wrote one shopper, who said this style has raised the bar for every other dress they buy. “If my future dresses aren’t as soft and silky feeling, as self-image-helping, or has deep pockets like this, then I don’t want them.”
Naggoo Ruffle Wrap Mini Dress
A white mini dress is a must-have for summer, and what impressed us about this lightly ruffled wrap dress is the reviewer photos. The same dress that is so cute and casual with white sneakers at Disney looks just as smart on date nights and riverside picnics, yet also right at home at graduations, weddings, and semi-formal events. That versatility is what’s won it more than 1,000 perfect ratings. Reviewers love that “is a true wrap dress” that’s “very easy to wrap“ and “super adjustable.” Others praise its “beautiful, airy fabric” that “floats across the body,” and its feminine split that doesn’t reveal too much. Shop the mini dress in 25 colors, all sure to score compliments wherever it’s worn.
