Florals are a big yes when it comes to summer swimsuit trends, and they’re showing up via everything from subtle 3D appliques to splashy tropical prints, says Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and founder of Dianne In Style. “Details like floral appliques are a way to add a stylish detail to a piece that has a typically expected look, and bright, stunning prints send the same message,” she says. “This is a look you can have fun picking unique color combinations for your personal style.”

Speaking of splashy tropical prints, you can expect lots of bright and bold swimwear in 2025. “Shoppers are choosing expressive, feel-good swimwear,” says Githa Duncker, co-founder and creative director of swimwear brand AQUARI. “It's about investing in pieces that spark joy and stand the test of time, so choose colors and prints that reflect you, not just trends.”

Boho is back in a big way, but with more of an elevated swist. “Think modern silhouettes with vintage-inspired prints, hand-dyed fabrics, crochet details, and nature-inspired color palettes,” Duncker tells us. “The great thing about this trend is that it pairs beautifully with brands that prioritize slow fashion and traditional techniques, creating pieces that are as soulful as they are stylish.” To nail the aesthetic, she suggests keeping the look light and airy. For example, layer your bikini with a sheer cover-up or a textured button-down dress.

One-Shoulder Swimsuits
The asymmetrical trend for the season spills into swimwear for both one-piece and two-piece styles. “Look for fun details such as shoulder bow details, ruffles, and fun prints,” Boyer suggests. She adds,“Stripes on an asymmetrical cut can be flattering as they create curves compared to horizontal stripes. Color blocking, also in style this season, is a unique and fun look for a one-shoulder one-piece swimsuit.”

Along with boho, a trend that was everywhere in the ‘60s and ‘70s, we’re seeing vintage vibes inspired by colors, prints, and silhouettes from the ‘50s. “With the return of gingham and polka dots this season, we see those patterns woven into vintage-style swimwear,” Boyer says.“Because of their vintage nature, styles are being aligned to match the patterns. Vintage-style bottoms are often high-waisted with full coverage.”

The tie between our oceans and sustainability is close, and in 2025 we’re seeing a continuation of brands focusing on ways to be kinder to our planet. “From protecting the ocean to supporting local makers, to using upcycled materials in creative ways,” Duncker says. “Shoppers are gravitating toward labels that are transparent, thoughtful, and stand for something bigger than trends.”
