I came up with this recipe after eating grilled meatloaf at a restaurant years ago. I loved the idea and developed a recipe that we like even more! Using indirect heat allows the centers to cook through before the outsides of the loaves get too dark.
Ingredients
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3/4 cup italian-style panko bread crumbs
1/2 cup finely chopped seeded jalapeno pepper or green pepper
1/2 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/2 pound spicy bulk pork sausage
2/3 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
Directions
In a large bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients. Add beef and sausage; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into two 6x4-in. loaves.
Prepare grill for indirect heat. Grill loaves, covered, over indirect medium heat for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine glaze ingredients.
Brush top and sides of loaves with glaze. Grill until a thermometer reads 160°, another 10-15 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
